Welp. I'm a nitwit. My laptop touchscreen stopped working. I fooled around a little, found the device - device, not driver, - in Device Manager, after checking Show Hidden Devices. Like a putz, I thought it might work like a driver - uninstall and it would reinstall on startup or I could just download it and reinstall it. I was wrrrrrooooonnnng. Microsoft informs me the solution lies with Dell. I've looked everywhere on Dell, no dice. No HID-compliant touchscreen device to be found. Plenty of drivers. *UPDATE* I double checked before posting this - now the above driver is fine and the dreaded triangle appears next to the plug in Bluetooth device I have connected to my laptop - BCM920702 Bluetooth 4.0 Device - says it can't start.Per the directions I could glean from Dell included updating my BIOS and Chipset drivers to correct this issue. Nope. Screen is still untouchable.Oh - also - in Devices and Printers, it showed my laptop - called Desktop in Devices and Printers - required further installation and referenced the error with the aforementioned Intel Bluetooth driver. Thanks for the speedy reply!In Microsofts's defense, I was the idiot who removed the touchscreen device. I did go back to before the latest Win 10 update and then downloaded and reinstalled to no avail. The laptop is a little less than 2 years old, so it came with Win 10. I had created some restore points - that was the first thing I looked to do after foolishly removing the touchscreen device. Oddly, they didn't appear in the restore points list. So I'm not sure where to go with a restore right now. I have personal files from this laptop backed up on an external hard drive, so they're fine, but I also have stuff from older laptops. Right now I don't have a 2nd external hard drive to back up everything on this laptop just in case a restore goes bad - so I'm wary of doing one.

With regard to your Bluetooth, it's not clear to me whether this is an Intel built-in or a dongle. Intel has been updating its drivers to new, modern drivers for Windows 10 and I recently got same for the integrated Intel Bluetooth and WiFi card in my HP laptop. Regardless of the make and model, if you've got Intel wireless cards I strongly suggest going to, -driver-support-assistant.html, and allowing the Intel Driver Support Assistant to download and remain active.

It's working wirelessly again. That was my priority.As for the touchscreen mess. I've read some solutions that say uninstalling the HID-compliant touchscreen device is hunky dory, 'cuz when ya restart it'll magically reappear. Yeah, no. It doesn't. Hi, britechguy!I did the Windows repair in the Non-Destructive Repair of Windows article you linked to. All went well as far as everything that worked before still works. All the files, apps, browsers and settings, etc. were untouched - though I had previously made a backup copy on a USB plus doing the media file creation outlined in the article, just in case. So, YAY!Regarding the Intel Bluetooth vs. Broadcom Bluetooth drivers Fight Club - it appears the fix to that was easy - the repair fixed the Intel - simply removing the removable bluetooth device took the Broadcom driver outta the mix. Apparently, the removable bluetooth device was the Broadcom device in question. Printer and headphones work without it, so into the spare PC equipment drawer it goes. However, still no HID touchscreen device appears in the Device Manager. I take the remark about this being the computer equivalent of the intake manifold gasket problem in the bowels of an engine. This is waaaaayyyy more difficult to solve!Hard to believe we can download OSes, apps, drivers, etc. willy nilly, yet fixing one little device appears to be impossible! Ah well. I would not be shocked that the touchscreen part has just failed entirely, and if that's the case and it is not detected at system startup then, as far as your machine is concerned, you do not have a touchscreen.
